Dead Man Logan: Old Man Logan finally rests in peace
By Mark Lynch
It’s been quite the run for Old Man Logan, but he will finally rest in peace.
In 2009, Writer Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven graced comic book fans with a new and terrible universe. One where the villains won and left the world in a dystopian society. A world run by the most sinister of villains like red Skull and Dr. Doom, and one where the Hulk went mad and became the slum lord of a chunk of the west coast. But after 50 years, Old Man Logan himself, Wolverine (now going by just Logan), rose up and set out to put the world back in order.
After becoming part of the 616 universe, Logan returned to continue to die at the home he built and next to his family. He got his wish. Old Man Logan is dead.
Logan’s healing factor had slowed down to almost a halt. With his last vial of Regenix , Logan killed Sabretooth. It was appropriate that Logan’s last act of violence would be against Victor Creed – a monster that had been a nuisance to Logan for over a century. After he killed them, the last of the Hulk’s lineage (Bruce Banner Jr.) and Danielle “Dani” Cage (Luke Cage and Jessica Jones’ daughter) brought him back to his home and buried Old Man Logan next to his family.

It was a long life for Logan. Even longer than the Wolverine we know. After being tricked into killing the X-Men, having a family and being the reason they died, it’s good that Logan could rest. There aren’t many people who deserved this as much as he did. There’s good news for that universe as well. Logan isn’t the last of the heroes.
A five part mini-series called Avengers of the Wastelands (written by Ed Brisson and drawn by Jonas Scharf) will debut in January of 2020. It will star a new Antman (Dwight who we’ve met a few times through Old Man Logan), Bruce Banner Jr., and the new Thor Dani Cage.
It appears Dr. Doom will make a play for power and force a new team of Avengers to Assemble. These probably won’t be the only three Avengers. Look for other characters to join the fight. Some of them may be older versions of characters we know and others who may be carrying the torch of former heroes. Regardless, this won’t be the last time we visit the Wastelands.
