Marvel Studios and Disney aren’t looking to cut down on film releases for the foreseeable future.

It’s no secret that Marvel Studios has a packed film schedule over the next few years, which is comprised of both sequels to existing franchises and entirely new properties. Between now and 2021, the mega studio plans to release six films, as well as multiple TV series for the Disney Plus streaming service. Despite so many projects and public concerns of fatigue, Marvel won’t be cutting back.

During a roundtable with THR, Alan Horn, Walt Disney Studios’ co-chairman and chief creative officer, shrugged off any fears of Marvel fatigue. He attributes this lack of concern to the idea of having an effective story:

"“The answer is no. If the film has a compelling storyline, if it has heart and humor, two things that I insist on, and it’s terrifically well executed, I think there is an audience. But who knows?”"

The veteran studio head also confirmed that Marvel Studios will continue to release multiple films per year and assured that each will differ from the other:

"“It is long. But Kevin Feige is working away. He will be making three or four a year. And they are very different from one another, so we’ll see.”"

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

Marvel Studios began to consistently release two films annually in 2013 with Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World. But the studio took a bolder step in 2017 when it ramped up to three films per calendar year with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok. Although 2020 will only see the release of two Marvel Cinematic Universe installments, 2021 will be a first, as the studio will drop four movies. As mentioned, there’s also the matter of the company’s work with Disney Plus, which will result in at least two TV series in a given year.

All of these projects are, of course, being spearheaded by studio president Kevin Feige, who was recently promoted to chief creative officer of Marvel. He’ll have a lot on his plate in the coming years, including a Star Wars film. Still, Feige has proven he can multitask, and he’s stated on multiple occasions that he has a team he trusts.

The MCU doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of fatigue, with the franchise earning a combined sum of $5 billion worldwide in 2019. There will likely be a day when its popularity dies down, but that doesn’t appear to be coming any time soon.
