The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has officially begun shooting.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has been one of the most anticipated projects on Marvel Studios’ Phase Four slate. And now, things are finally kicking into gear on the upcoming show.
Malcolm Spellman, the showrunner for the series, took to Instagram to announce that filming is officially underway. He also expressed his excitement for the monumental day and what it means for the cast and crew. Additionally, the post included two photos of the back of his crew chair:
With photos being prohibited on the set, it will likely be a while before we get an official look at the show. It was previously reported that filming would take place primarily in Atlanta and that it would shoot under the working title “Tag Team.” Marvel Studios, as they do with all of their projects, is keeping details under wraps and, as a result, not much is known about the series.

What we do know is that it will continue the stories of Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson/The Falcon and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier following the events of Avengers: Endgame. The two will be joined by the returning Emily VanCamp and Daniel Brühl, who will reprise their roles as Sharon Carter/Agent 13 and Helmut Zemo, respectively. The series will also introduce the character of John Walker, played by Wyatt Russell.
Joining Spellman behind the camera is Kari Skogland, who will direct the six-episode limited series, and John Wick scribe Derek Kolstad is penning the scripts. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige also serves as executive producer.
As Marvel Studios’ first foray into TV, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will set the tone for storytelling and production values in the Marvel Cinematic Universe shows. And it will be interesting to see how they stack up to their film counterparts. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier arrives on Disney Plus in late 2020.
