A new report indicates that Marvel has started casting a villain for Ms. Marvel that is likely to be the Inventor.

Ms. Marvel / Kamala Khan is set to have her own live-action TV series on Disney Plus in the near future. While an actress has not been cast in the role just yet, that does not seem to stop Marvel Studios from casting other roles for the series.

A new report from The GWW says that Marvel is now casting the villain for the series. Here are the details they shared on the role:

"The role is for that of “Birdman,” which is likely a codename. The most plausible option for the character’s real identity is The Inventor, a bird clone of Thomas Edison and one of the first villains Ms. Marvel faced off against."

One of Kamala Khan’s creators, G. Willow Wilson, talked about the challenges of adapting the character in a live-action medium. The casting of the Inventor hints that Marvel may be going for a simple approach and will look to adapt Kamala Khan using her first story arc.

Mr. Edison / the Inventor is an amalgam of a man and a bird. Wilson thought of the Inventor as a good rival to Kamala Khan to mirror her own complexities and dual identity.

Her first run dealt with her identity as a teenage Muslim-American dealing with her conservative Pakistani family, her life in school and the newfound Inhuman powers that allowed her to become Ms. Marvel, her favorite superhero.

What is interesting about Kamala Khan’s battle against the Inventor is that she teams up with Wolverine, who was battling the loss of his healing factor at the time. This allowed Kamala Khan to take a more active role, giving her legitimacy in the eyes of readers experiencing a new character.

Whether or not Kamala Khan will be fighting alongside other MCU characters is unknown, as story details are still sparse at the moment. But there is still a lot of enthusiasm for a Ms. Marvel TV series, with the prospect of seeing Kamala Khan come to life.
