Michael Douglas confirms ‘Ant-Man 3’ return and drops shooting details

Michael Douglas has confirmed his return in Ant-Man 3 and shared when it will start filming.
Ant-Man 3 is officially on the way, as Peyton Reed has signed on to return as director. It’s expected that most of the cast will return, as well, and one star has just confirmed his involvement.
Michael Douglas spoke briefly to Collider about his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which includes his small appearance in this year’s Avengers: Endgame. While the actor joked about the brevity of his role, he finds it cool to have been a part of what is now the highest-grossing film of all time.
Four years after joining the franchise as Dr. Hank Pym in Ant-Man, the actor is still enjoying his time in the Marvel sandbox. He also went on to confirm that he’ll return for the upcoming third installment and reveal when it will start shooting:
"“The Marvel world has really been a blast. I love them, I’m having a great time. We’re starting a third [Ant-Man] at the beginning of January ’21."

Hank Pym has become a vital character in the MCU, having created the Pym Particles and being one of the universe’s earliest heroes. If it weren’t for his technology, Scott Lang also wouldn’t have been able to help Earth’s Mightiest Heroes reverse Thanos’ actions in Endgame. Given this and his significant role in the Ant-Man movies, it’s no surprise that Douglas is reprising his role.
The shooting start date also seems to line up with the tentative 2022 release date Marvel Studios is aiming for. With the film starting production in January 2021, it could be released in the spring of the following year.
The biggest question that remains is what Pym’s exact role will be in the third (and possibly final) film. The end of Ant-Man and the Wasp saw Pym reunite with his wife, Janet, and settle down on an island where Pym relocated their San Francisco home. Of course, the couple and their daughter, Hope, were snapped out of existence before being restored in Endgame’s third act.
Ant-Man and the Wasp gave Pym a larger (and less exposition-filled) role, so one can assume Peyton Reed will aim to give the character even more to do.
