Aaron Taylor-Johnson won’t be donning his running shoes and reprising the role of Quicksilver anytime soon.

Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver received the short end of the stick when he was introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron and killed off during the film’s third act. Although audiences wanted him to have a larger role than he did, the response to the character was generally positive. Though it seems Marvel Studios still isn’t planning to revive the fallen Avenger.

Screen Rant recently caught up with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who explained that he and Marvel Studios are still open to teaming up for something new. Like many others, he’s also keeping tabs on the studios’ plans for Disney Plus:

"“I think we’re both open to possibilities, like the Marvel Universe like it has been over the years, but obviously yes, I’m aware of the Disney+ platform and all of the shows that are going and I’m still in touch with a lot of the people.”"

However, the actor made it clear that there is nothing currently in the works regarding a possible return for Quicksilver:

"“I mean, I think it’s safe to say that no, I’m not gonna… there will be no appearance of me coming out or Quicksilver appearing anytime soon.”"

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

Taylor-Johnson made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the mid-credits scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier before getting a formal debut in Age of Ultron. In the film, he and his twin sister, Wanda, — played by Elizabeth Olsen — are recruited by the titular villain to help him destroy the Avengers and wipe out humanity. The pair eventually sides with the Avengers after learning the true nature of Ultron’s plan. But during the Battle of Sokovia, Pietro would sacrifice himself to save Hawkeye and a child from being gunned down, leaving Wanda to mourn him.

Because Quicksilver was given the exit of a hero, some may not be keen on seeing him return. They may also feel that using him again will take away from the emotional weight of his death. With that being said, the door is still open for him to come back. Upcoming MCU projects like WandaVision or Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could provide “unusual” ways for him to pop up again.
