Warner Bros. currently has no plans to release the long-sought-after ‘Snyder Cut’ of Justice League.

An army of fans has been asking for the Snyder Cut — Zack Snyder’s original version of Justice League — for nearly two years now, and the demand is still growing. Recently, the movement has even gained support from some of the film’s main stars. Despite this, Warner Bros. isn’t looking to revisit the controversial superhero film.

Through an extensive report from Variety, it’s been revealed that the studio isn’t keen on investing in the Snyder Cut. Insiders attribute this to the money needed to finish the project, as well as its poor performance in 2017:

"“Logistically, however, there’s little appetite at the studio for spending the millions of dollars it would require to finish visual effects and editing work on Snyder’s version, particularly as “Justice League” was a commercial disaster.”"

Fans were encouraged when the HBO Max streaming service was announced, as they saw it as a possible venue for the Snyder Cut. But another source referred it as “a pipe dream” and went as far as to say that “there’s no way it’s ever happening”.

When Snyder was forced to depart Justice League after the sudden death of his daugther, Joss Whedon was brought in to finish things up. This resulted in a version of the film that greatly differed from Snyder’s original plans. Since then, the director has been vocal on social media about his desire to release the cut. Actors like Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot have also lended their support to his cause.

It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that Warner Bros. is steering away from the Snyder Cut. Justice League underperformed both commercially and financially, and the studio likely wants to move on as opposed to putting more money into it. Warner’s recent success with films like Aquaman and Joker and their future plans for projects featuring Superman and Green Lantern are also contributing factors.

There’s always a chance the Snyder Cut will see the light of day at some point in the future like Richard Donner’s Superman II, but that likely won’t happen anytime soon.
