Tom Holland revealed that he was in an interesting state when he talked to Disney’s Bob Iger about a new Spider-Man deal.

News of Disney and Sony’s agreement to keep Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a relief to fans and Spidey himself, Tom Holland. The actor went as far as to reach out to Disney CEO Bob Iger about the situation. But now, Holland has divulged an interesting element of their chat.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he reflected on Sony and Marvel’s inability to reach a new deal and how it made for an “awful” D23 Expo experience. And as you would expect, he took the news pretty hard. Still, he wanted formally thank Bob Iger for his time working with Disney:

"“I asked if I could get Bob Iger’s email because I just wanted to say, ‘Thank you, this has been an amazing five years of my life. Thank you for changing my life in the best way and I hope that we can work together in the future.’ I got his email and I sent him the email and he responded very quickly saying he’d want to jump on the phone and asked when I was free.”"

The 23-year-old star would eventually get a call from Iger, but he wasn’t exactly in the clearest state of mind when the Disney head was ready to talk:

"“So, two, three days go by and then my family and I went to the pub quiz in our local town. We’re doing a quiz and I’m three pints in, haven’t eaten much, and I get a phone call from an unknown number and I have a feeling. I’m like, ‘I think this is Bob Iger but I’m drunk.’”"

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

From the moment he was cast as Peter Parker, Tom Holland has been more than enthusiastic about his role in the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. This could be, in part, due to the fact that he was already a fan of the character before landing the role. So it comes as no surprise that he also confirmed he was indeed emotional when speaking to Iger, even going as far as to say he “wept” while making his case.

As we know now, both Disney’s Iger and Sony’s Tom Rothman, whom Holland also credits for the deal, went back to the negotiating table and worked something out. This led to an agreement that the studios, Holland and the majority of the fans appear to be pleased with.

It’s probably not wise to talk about business while intoxicated, but it’s hard to argue with Holland’s results. And one of those results is a third MCU-set Spider-Man film that’s set to swing into theaters on July 16, 2021.
