Marvel Television will officially be folded into Marvel’s film division, which will lead to a reduction in its staff.

Marvel Television is experiencing a changing of the guard with the promotion of Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige as CCO and the departure of longtime TV head Jeph Loeb. Now, additional changes are on the way, and they seem to spell the end of Marvel TV as we know it.

Deadline reports that Marvel TV, which has existed as an independent entity under the Marvel umbrella, is set to merge with Marvel Studios, marking the end of an era. While remaining shows like Helstrom and The Offenders will stay in production, no future plans are being made for this unit of the superhero mega-company.

The trade also reports that the consolidation of the two entities will lead to a few dozen layoffs, including Loeb, who’s departure was initially reported in October. Despite this, Loeb is still expected to remain with the company during the transition. Karim Zreik, Marvel TV’s senior VP of current programming and production, will join Marvel Studios, along with members of his creative team.

More from Marvel

The change in the status quo won’t actually mark the end of Marvel Television. It does, however, signify Kevin Feige’s expanded creative reach within the company. This was already evidenced with Marvel Studios’ decision to venture into television with Marvel Cinematic Universe shows that will air on Disney Plus.

Marvel TV has had its share of peaks and valleys over the years. Loeb and the company found success with shows like Agents of SHIELD, Legion and the Marvel-Netflix universe. It’s also had misfires in the form of the panned Inhumans and scrapped pilots for Marvel’s Most Wanted and New Warriors.

It’s unclear what the future holds for Marvel Television, but we can expect that Feige is going to usher in a brand new era, one more closely linked to the MCU.
