3. All that for a drop of blood
Movie: Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
This was the first time the heroes had a chance to get the drop on Thanos. A direct confrontation against him while he had the Infinity Stones was foolish. They devised a plan. Keep Thanos off-balance and then try to remove the Infinity Gauntlet off his hand. Easier said than done.
It would have worked if Star-Lord didn’t let his emotions affect him. He lost control for a moment and Thanos regained control and defeated everyone.
Why it ranks as one of the greatest fight scenes from this decade’s superhero movies
It didn’t have the intense emotional moments that others may have had. Sure, Star-Lord losing control made everyone angry, but it wasn’t a sad or ecstatic point in the movie. What makes this one so special was the fighting itself. In particular, Doctor Strange.
Doctor Strange is one of the two most powerful beings in the universe. We didn’t get to see much of that in Doctor Strange, but we did get to see it here. He used a surplus of mystical moves against Thanos and they looked cool. Turning Thanos’ energy attacks into butterflies, teleporting his partners, attacking him with multiple versions of himself, and so much more.
The final fight between Iron Man and Thanos was good as well. Stark had one more chance and he went at Thanos harder than he’s fought anyone. It barely did any damage at all. Thanos said it was a drop of blood, but he was being generous. It was barely that.
