Disney Plus has officially announced that Marvel’s WandaVision will now be released in 2020.
Marvel Studios is looking at a packed 2020, with the release of two films and the first in what will be a string of limited series set for the Disney Plus streaming service. While it was announced that only one of those shows would premiere this year, it looks like another has joined the schedule.
In a promotional video showcasing its 2020 content, Disney Plus revealed that Marvel’s WandaVision is now set to be released this year. The project had previously been slated for early 2021, which will also be a jam-packed year for Marvel:

WandaVision was conceived by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and is intended to be a hybrid of Marvel spectacle and a ’50s sitcom. The project stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, reprising their roles as Wanda Maximoff and Vision, respectively. The two are joined by returning Marvel stars Kat Dennings and Randall Park, along with franchise newcomers Teyonah Parris and Kathryn Hahn.
The series was developed by Jac Schaeffer, who previously co-wrote the screenplays for Captain Marvel and Black Widow, and Matt Shakman will direct the episodes. The show is currently shooting in Atlanta.
This is a surprising development, to say the least, but Marvel Studios has never been tentative about adjusting their plans when needed. In the case of WandaVision, production may be going better than expected, leading to an earlier release. Or the project was always planned for 2020, and 2021 was merely a placeholder.
With this new release date, one would assume the show will drop near the end of 2020. And with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier already set to precede it, there’s a chance that show could be pushed up as well to create distance between the two.
Marvel already gave fans enough to be excited about in the new year, and adding Wanda and Vision to the mix should only increase that hype.
