Anya Taylor-Joy says it’s ‘super trippy’ watching old ‘New Mutants’ scenes
The New Mutants was first filmed three years and, for star Anya Taylor-Joy, watching her younger self on the big screen now is “super trippy.”
As some readers may recall, we were originally supposed to see The New Mutants – starring Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams and Glass‘ Anya Taylor-Joy – on the big screen way back in April 2018, after production first was wrapped up the previous September in 2017. Then, reshoots took place that forced a new release month to February of the following year.
Then, even newer reshoots were necessary, which wound up pushing the film up to this year. Now, we are finally (hopefully, assuming there are not any more unexpected reshoots in order) set to see The New Mutants come to a theater near us on April 3, 2020.
All things considered, this movie’s journey has been just over three years in the making, which is bizarre for a major Hollywood production like this. It is especially bizarre for the film’s star Anya Taylor-Joy.
The actor recalled to People Magazine what it was like rewatching scenes she filmed three years ago. Keep in mind that she was around 20 when she first started filming for the movie and is now turning 24 a month from now:

"“It’s super trippy, but most mostly because I mean, I think everybody that’s coming into their 20s, you think you’re so grown up when you hit 20 and then you’re 21 and I’m like, ‘You’re a baby!’ I don’t know,” she says. “I feel like I’ve grown up a lot since then, but it’s also fun because that character was a lot of fun to play with.”"
For those unaware, with The New Mutants being pushed as the final installment in Fox’s X-Men franchise, Taylor-Joy is playing Illyana Rasputina, aka Magik (the younger sister of Colossus).
We should not expect Colossus to make a leap from the Deadpool franchise to New Mutants in order to save his little sister (unless it winds up being a secret cameo) but, with this being an official part of Fox’s X-Men universe, we can’t rule it out entirely. If nothing else, expect the film to bring Fox’s universe to a thrilling conclusion.
We will have to wait and see once the film is released just how much of the X-Men universe (comics and film) will be integrated into the film’s story.
