4. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

At first glance, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Black Widow couldn’t be further apart. One is an intergalactic action-comedy following a misfit band of heroes, while the other is a little more grounded by comparison; both literally and figuratively. But there are a few commonalities, beginning with the obvious. Both films are action-packed with a “family” narrative.

We expect Black Widow to dig into Natasha’s past, providing us with a full-on family reunion with. Well, in James Gunn’s sequel we got the same thing, kind of. Fans were introduced to a Celestial being, Ego, who spawned a tale of familial adventure for the beloved Guardians. But that’s not the most connective tissue the two movies are likely to share.

Black Widow will give us a look at the relationship between Natasha and her “sister” Yelena Belova. That sisterly narrative is something we’ve seen with Guardians of the Galaxy with Gamora and Nebula. Like Yelena and Natasha, they aren’t related by blood but adopted daughters of Thanos. However, unlike Thanos’ daughters, Red Guardian appears to have his kids inline.

With Black Widow being a spy movie, perhaps there is some treachery waiting to happen. If so, we could see these sisters go head-to-head like Gamora and Nebula… so best to get acquainted (or reacquainted) with those two.
