Star Wars: Cassian Andor series casts Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller
By Scott Brown
Even though Star Wars ended its Skywalker Saga several months ago, there’s so much more coming from the galaxy far, far away, and more actors are being brought on board to facilitate that.
In an exclusive from Variety, it has been revealed that the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story spin-off series focusing on Cassian Andor has added two more members to its cast, Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller.
The pair will be joining both Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk who will be reprising their roles as Cassian Andor and K-2SO respectively. Stephen Schiff is acting as showrunner for the series while Tony Gilroy, who was originally brought in for the reshoots on Rogue One, will be writing the pilot as well as directing several episodes.
This won’t be the first big budget Disney property that Stellan Skarsgard has been attached to either as he is a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Eric Selvig. This happens quite often, but it seems that there’s some semblance of “keeping it in the family” with the casting of Skarsgard.

Most recently though, Skarsgard was nominated for an Emmy for his role in the phenomenal miniseries on HBO, Chernobyl. It’s unclear what role he will be playing as of now, but odds are, given his other roles, such as in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, he will be playing an Imperial officer of some sort.
As for Soller, this will be his most prolific role to date. The British actor has starred in multiple British series such as 101 Dalmatian Street and Poldark, as well as the film Brexit opposite of Benedict Cumberbatch. This will be his first mainstream role though and, if the history of Star Wars has shown anything, it has shown that it is a venue for breakout talent.
The actual production and release of the series is up in the air as of now though. Originally slated for a 2021 release date, productions across the world have suffered shutdowns due to the COVID-19 virus. It is unknown if this has affected the production date for the series as that is an unknown quantity as of now. Whether or not the series keeps a 2021 release right now is up in the air, but Disney is obviously keeping it on its docket after the success of The Mandalorian.
