Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Henry Cavill returning to the role of Superman! (Maybe)

In an exclusive from Deadline, it is being reported that Henry Cavill is in talks to reprise his role as Superman in a future film or films.

If Cavill does indeed return to reprise the role of Superman, the report indicates that it will not be in a solo film, such as a Man of Steel 2, but in a featured role in a future film already in development. Per the report, it’s possible that Cavill could cameo in Shazam! 2, Black Adam, or Aquaman 2. Warner Bros. did not comment to Deadline regarding their report.

This news comes a week after the news that Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League was going to be finished and released on HBO Max in 2021. The announcement was made during Snyder’s watch party of Man of Steel, which Cavill joined toward the end of, coinciding with Snyder’s announcement of his cut of Justice League.

More from DCEU

The theatrical version of Justice League was the last time that Cavill had played the role of Superman after he had played the character in Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

As exciting as this news is, there is a tinge of disappointment surrounding it due to more evidence that a sequel to Man of Steel is not in development. The sequel to Man of Steel has long been called for by fans of the film (this writer included), so while the news that Cavill might be returning is great, the lack of a Man of Steel sequel is unfortunate.

But at least we are set to see a sequel for another beloved DC Comics character, aka Wonder Woman, in Wonder Woman 1984, which is currently set to be released on August 14.
