The best Batman movie you’ve never seen is now on Netflix
The critically-acclaimed masterpiece Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is now on Netflix, and you should absolutely be watching it!
Batman has been swooping in to save the day, stop the bad guys and make an impact on both the big and small screens for over half a century.
We’ve all seen Adam West’s classic Caped Crusader bash his way through buzz words and Michael Keaton’s Dark Knight tackle twisted tormentors from the depths of Gotham, but bafflingly enough, a lot of mainstream audiences still aren’t familiar with one of his greatest adventures. Well, that potentially greatest adventure has just landed on Netflix in the U.S.. We are, of course, talking about the phenomenal Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is now on Netflix
Released back in 1993, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is a feature-length spin-off/sequel of the legendary Batman: The Animated Series.
It centers on a ghoulish figure that turns up in Gotham City and slaughters a host of retired mobsters before setting its sights on The Joker himself. And due to his resemblance to Batman, the Caped Crusader gets wrongly accused of the murders – kicking off a tale of vengeance, heartache and heroism that finally reveals how Bruce Wayne became the creature of the night in the first place.

Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, Efrem Zimbalist Jr., Bob Hastings and Robert Constanzo reprised their roles as The Dark Knight, The Joker, Alfred Pennyworth, Commissioner James Gordon and Detective Harvey Bullock while Dana Delany voiced Andrea Beaumont in an incredible vocal performance.
Like its TV counterpart, it received acclaim from both fans and critics, with all praising the mature story, the animation, performers and the incredible score by the incomparable by Shirley Walker. Unfortunately, due to a last-minute release, the film failed at the box-office.
It has since found enormous success on home video and is widely regarded as one of the best Batman movies of all time. In spite of that, it’s still not as well-known as all of the character’s other film appearances. It goes without saying that this needs to change. Here’s hoping that Netflix is the key to making that happen!
So sit back, relax and prepare yourself for one of the best comic book movies ever made. And if you’ve already seen it, then now is the perfect time to revisit this haunting classic.
