HBO Max replaces beloved DCEU movie with long-awaited extended cut
HBO Max has replaced the theatrical cut of Zack Snyder’s DCEU film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with the Ultimate/Extended edition instead.
HBO Max features a list of beloved DCEU superhero movies, but it recently replaced one of them… in a manner of speaking.
The streaming platform took to social media to reveal that it has now swapped out the theatrical cut of Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with the extended cut (a.k.a. the Ultimate Edition) instead.

A better DCEU movie
The decision to replace the theatrical edition of Batman v Superman with the Ultimate Edition was undoubtedly a wise choice.
One of the biggest offerings of 2016, there’s no denying that the movie was a box-office heavyweight as it saw perhaps the two most famous superheroes in the world (and certainly the two most famous DC Comics superheroes) go head-to-head in a huge battle, essentially launching the DCEU in the process.

However, much of the narrative problems that both fans critics had with the film were addressed in the Ultimate Edition release, as the lengthier run-time allowed it to tell the story that the theatrical version truncated. And, as a result, it received a much more positive reception from both fans and critics.
This, of course, won’t be the only time that HBO Max adds an extended edition of a Zack Snyder DCEU film. The streaming service made headlines just a few weeks ago when it announced that it would be releasing Zack Syder’s Justice League – a.k.a. the “Snyder Cut” that DCEU fans have been campaigning for since the disappointing theatrical version halted all of the shared universe’s success back in 2017. It is expected to hit the streamer in 2021.
