It’s been six months since the backdoor pilot of Arrow’s spin-off aired, but now Katherine McNamara has shed some more light on the fate of Green Arrow and The Canaries…

The backdoor pilot of Green Arrow and The Canaries was a resounding success. The episode (also titled “Green Arrow and The Canaries”) brought in season-high viewing figures for Arrow and received positive reviews from fans and critics. And yet, six months later we haven’t heard official word on whether or not the potential Arrowverse series has been picked up by The CW.

The pilot saw Katie Cassidy’s Laurel Lance/Black Canary/Black Siren and Juliana Harkavy’s Dinah Drake/Black Canary arrive in Star City in 2040 and attempt to remind Katherine McNamara’s Mia Queen of the life she had before Crisis On Infinite Earths. In doing so, they convince her to carry on her father’s legacy by becoming the Green Arrow.

McNamara has now spoken about the radio silence in regards to the show’s fate, revealing to Insider that things are still in stasis because of the novel coronavirus pandemic. She commented:

"“We were in limbo going into this quarantine and now even more so. The longer it goes, I think the more things are just going to be up in the air for a while. And until we get official word, I’m always still hopeful.”"

There have been multiple updates in regards to the status of the potential spin-off, with the network’s chairman, Mark Pedowtiz, confirming that they were still in active discussions and had a strategy in mind for the show.

This was followed a number of months later by Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim who suggested that we’d hear an update “soon“. But when that update didn’t come, he revealed a few weeks later that he “knew things” and was frustrated by the fact that The CW hadn’t made those “things” public because the fans so clearly wanted to know.

Fans are hoping to hear an update at DC FanDome, so let’s hope we hear good news very, very soon.
