The Flash solo film has been in production hell forever. Fans were finally given some updates about the film at DC FanDome.

We’ve all been waiting to see The Flash headline his own film ever since Ezra Miller debuted in the 2017 DC Extended Universe film, Justice League. The film has not come to fruition as yet, but at DC FanDome, the team behind the film were ready with some updates.

The panel included Miller, who returns as the Flash/ Barry Allen, Andy Muschietti, director of The Flash, Barbara Muschietti, producer of the film, and Christina Hodson, writer on the film. Recently, it was revealed that the film would feature Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, reprising their roles as Batman.

So, what else did we learn about the much-delayed film?

The Flash: Time travel, a new suit and the multiverse

At DC FanDome, DC executives talked a lot about DC’s multiverse and time travel – be it in the comic books, films, or television shows. The Flash character was introduced in the DCEU in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice by travelling through time to spur Bruce Wayne into forming the Justice League.

Much like the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover in the Arrowverse, it seems like The Flash film is a launching pad for explaining the myriad versions of the characters in the live-action film world.

Director Muschietti has said that the film is a time-travel film. It’s obvious that the creators are leaning into the Flashpoint comic book run. Writer Christina Hodson, the brains behind this year’s Birds of Prey, explained that she’s written the Flash as a man who wants to save his mother.

More from DCEU

Hodson also based the personality of Barry Allen on Ezra Miller – the character will, therefore, be a mix of humour and emotion.

More excitingly, the Flash is set to get a new suit. Barry’s ‘friend’ Bruce Wayne is going to outfit Barry in a sleek, organic suit, equipped with lights. The concept art shared during the panel is more aerodynamic and seems inspired by the CW’s version of the suit.

Now, most fans will remember that DCEU’s Barry Allen met the Arrowverse’s Barry during the Crisis on Infinite Earths earlier in 2020. In fact, at a different panel, Walter Hamada, President of DC Films, and Jim Lee, Publisher at DC Comics revealed that the DCEU Barry Allen earns his superhero name after his meeting with the Arrowverse character.

For now, the film’s production appears to be on hold due to the pandemic, but hopefully, it will finally be released in 2022.
