Several Milestone Media characters such as Static Shock are reemerging into the DC Universe after the “Surprise Comic Panel” at DC Fandome!

In the early 90’s the comic book industry was seeing a shake-up, you had creative talent leaving Marvel over disputes with creative talent feeling like they weren’t being properly compensated for their artistic creations to create Image. But more importantly to the purpose of the “surprise” panel at DC FanDome, you had the creation of Milestone Media.

In 1993 Milestone Media focused exclusively on creating characters of color because of a lack of representation in comics at the time.  Milestone helmed series like Icon, Static Shock, Kobalt and the Milestone-DC Crossover Worlds Collide. In 2010, DC Announced the incorporation of many Milestone characters into the DC Universe.  In 2017, DC announced the creation of Earth-M to focus on Milestone characters, but it stalled due to legal issues.

Many were sitting at the edge of their seats wondering what exactly DC would announce during its “Surprise Comic Panel” during Fandome.

The Panel’s Big Reveal Is:

First, leading up to February 2021, Milestone Heroes will be relaunched and distributed as an imprint of DC.  Several titles will become available in print, with more of the back-catalogue available on Comixology and other digital apps where comics are available.

More from Digital Comics

Second, coming in February will also have a new Static original Graphic novel written by Reggie Hudlin as well as a digital-first series also penned by Hudlen with artists to be announced in both cases.

Third, Icon and Rocket will return in 2021.  This is one of the most mentioned titles and/or characters next to Static and the Static Shock series.  The Static comic book will be written by Hundlen with art by Denys Cowan.

This was an amazing announcement during the still-early phases of Fandome.  Milestone Media is responsible for increasing the representation of characters of color and there is no time like the present to ensure that DC Comics are as the readership.
