Iconic Batman comic to be adapted into a two-part film
By Scott Brown
DC has consistently used their animated films to adapt some of their biggest Batman and Justice League stories. Now, one of the most popular Batman stories ever is confirmed to be getting the animated treatment.
During IGN’s exclusive DC FanDome panel for the upcoming animated film, Superman: Man of Tomorrow, it was revealed that The Long Halloween is being adapted into animation.
Warner Bros. Animation has had a history of adapting some of the most iconic Batman stories ever, such as The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One, and Batman: Hush, into animated form, so it’s unsurprising that they will finally be doing so with the Tim Sale and Jeph Loeb masterpiece.
Like the animated adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns, The Long Halloween will be released in two parts with the first part to debut in the summer of 2021 and the second part to drop in the fall. No casting announcements were made.

Also announced at the panel was Justice Society: World War II which, as the name suggests, will focus on the Justice Society of America during World War II. Matt Bomer, who was hosting the panel, made a joke about hearing a familiar voice in the film, indicating that the Doom Patrol star and former Superman voice actor may be voicing someone in the film. Unlike The Long Halloween, Justice Society: World War II will be an original story rather than an adaptation.
This announcement of The Long Halloween comes just one day after the first trailer for The Batman was revealed at DC FanDome to nearly universal acclaim. The Batman also seems to be loosely adapting The Long Halloween storyline, but instead of using the Holiday killer as in the original story, it is implied that Riddler is the one carrying out the murders within the story. From the looks of it though, fans of The Long Halloween are going to be in for a treat in 2021.
