Jamie Foxx has revealed that his MCU version of Electro in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 will not be blue this time around.

In an almost surreal turn of events, it was recently revealed that Jamie Foxx was in negotiations to reprise his role as Electro in the third outing of the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s Spider-Man: Homecoming franchise.

Foxx previously portrayed the energizer, scatter-brained villain in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – which is set in an entirely different continuity than the upcoming MCU film.

Now, most recently shared by the actor (H/T: The Playlist) in an Instagram post that has since been deleted, Foxx revealed that his new version of Electro will no longer be the color blue (like he appeared in 2014 film). Foxx hinted at more of a different version of the character, saying:

"“Tell Spider let’s run it back!Super excited to part of the new marvel Spider-Man new instalment… can’t wait for y’all to check the new one.”And I won’t be blue in this one!! But a thousand percent badass!”"

A new Electro in Spider-Man 3

Likely, the MCU iteration of Electro will be very different to Sony’s nerdy electrical engineer from Oscorp. With that in mind, he could be much closer to the original comic book counterpart – the one that sports green-and-yellow tights who is a former Stark Enterprises employee. He could also be the genetically-engineered hired-gun with burn scars from the Ultimate Marvel line.

For those unaware of Electro’s arc in TASM 2, Max Dillon becomes obsessed with Spider-Man once he is saved from an attack by Aleksei Sytsevich. Later, Dillon is electrocuted while fixing a power line and falls into a tank with genetically-engineered electric eels.

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

His origins in the MCU will most likely be quite different. Perhaps it might even reveal that Dillon became “enhanced” following the Sokovia Accords either by self-experimentation or a freak accident? Who knows? Either way, expect the third Spider-Man movie to feature a very different Electro.

Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori reprise their roles for Spider-Man 3. Jon Watts is set to return to direct the third installment from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are producing for Marvel Studios and Pascal Pictures. Sony Pictures Releasing will distribute. Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 will swing into theaters Dec.17, 2021.
