In a new casting report, it seems that Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is bringing some new blood into the MCU.

In a report from Deadline, it has been revealed the Xochitl Gomez has been cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Gomez will be joining Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen in the film with Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor expected to reprise their roles as well.

Gomez’s casting marks a big jump in her career as her most notable role so far has been a leading one in Netflix’s adaptation of The Baby-Sitters Club which came out earlier in 2020.

As of now, there are no details as to which role she is playing, but it’s possible she could be taking on the role of America Chavez, aka Miss America. For those unfamiliar with the character of America Chavez, in the comics she has been a member of the Young Avengers, as well as the West Coast Avengers, and is friends with Kate Bishop, who will more than likely appear in the Hawkeye show on Disney Plus. Her powers included that of super strength, flight, and energy blasts. Oh, and one more: Interdimensional travel.

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

That last power alone would make her a smart inclusion in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, this is just speculation at this point, so it should be taken with a grain of salt that Gomez will be playing America.

According to Deadline’s report, filming on Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is set to begin in May after Benedict Cumberbatch finishes filming his role in Spider-Man 3. Originally set to be directed by Scott Derrickson, director of the first Doctor Strange, he left the project and former Spider-Man director Sam Raimi was brought on to direct the project.
