The writer/director of DC’s The Suicide Squad, James Gunn, has confirmed the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is complete.

As he announced on Twitter (H/T: Screen Rant), James Gunn – the custodian of the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s arcane but mighty group the Guardians of the Galaxy – has revealed that the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is finished.

Gunn has been working tirelessly on Warner Bros. production The Suicide Squad as of late and he will soon turn his attention to the HBO Max spin-off series Peacemaker. However, he will indeed return to the MCU for Guardians 3.

As he has been working on those, there has been a bit of radio silence on the Guardians front (though it was disclosed that filming will proceed in February 2021 earlier this year).

With the entertainment industry still in something of a standstill due to the novel coronavirus, it wasn’t clear if this may have caused production delays, but the fact that the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has already been complete, it does seem like things will be moving ahead.

Fans still aren’t sure what to expect from the storyline of GOTG Vol. 3 because a lot of the story points remain up in the air. Gamora’s shocking death in Avengers: Infinity War took that version of her from us but in the follow-up Avengers: Endgame, a Gamora from the year 2014 made an appearance. This one aligned herself with her adoptive sister Nebula and wasn’t quite sure what to make of the Guardians yet.

Following Endgame, the Guardians prepared for an adventure in space with Thor. Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to be filming in early 2021 and now we know that some of the Guardians are being included in it.
