Matt Bomer looks the part as the DCEU’s Man of Steel 2 in this new Superman image.

The future of Superman in the DC Extended Universe remains relatively uncertain. The legendary DC Comics superhero appeared in 2013’s Man Of Steel where he was portrayed by Henry Cavill – who went on to reprise the role in 2016 DCEU installment Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League.

Rumors have been swirling about the character’s future ever since, with some suggesting that DC has finished with Supes for now, while others believe that Henry Cavill has departed the role. However, it does seem like Cavill is destined to return in some capacity in the future – the question remains if it’s for Man of Steel 2 or not.

That said, fans have been curious about whether Warner Bros. could take a similar approach to the one they’ve taken with Matt Reeves’ The Batman with the Man of Steel, creating an offshoot standalone story for the hero outside of the DCEU. Meanwhile, others have been wondering if we’ll see a recast in the DCEU itself (unlikely but it was a running theory).

What Matt Bomer would look like as Superman in the DCEU in Man of Steel 2

A name that regularly pops up when it comes to casting Superman is none other than Matt Bomer. The veteran star nearly played the role in 2006’s Superman Returns but it ultimately went to Brandon Routh (who has since become an Arrowverse stalwart through a major role on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow as Ray Palmer following a recurring stint on Arrow).

However, he has since voiced the role in the film Superman: Unbound and appears in a regular role in DC’s Doom Patrol as Larry Trainor/Negative Man.

Now, digital artist Skull101ify on Instagram has given fans a glimpse of how Bomer might look if he were to replace Henry Cavill as Superman in the DCEU/Man of Steel 2. And he looks absolutely incredible in the iconic super-suit.

Yes, after all these years, Bomer would still make a great Superman.
