A new rumor suggests that Willem Dafoe and Thomas Haden Church may reprise their roles as Green Goblin and Sandman in Spider-Man 3 within the MCU.

Just when things could not get any better for fans of Spider-Man 3, they just might be about to get a whole lot more surreal. Jon Watts’ Marvel Cinematic Universe film has been racking up some big names in terms of casting – something that is heavy-hitting and nostalgic at the same time. Now, however, it may have landed some more major names.

According to The Illuminerdi, Willem Dafoe and Thomas Haden Church could reprise their roles as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin and Flint Marko/Sandman respectively as a source has reported that deals are being finalized for them to appear in the MCU’s Tom Holland-led film.

The MCU’s star-studded Spider-Man 3

For the last few weeks, there have been rumors and reports in relation to the production of the third Spider-Man movie. It all started with rumors of Alfred Molina’s return as Doctor Octopus which was later confirmed.

Prior to that, however, it was announced that Jamie Foxx would be joining as Electro – reprising his role from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. To add to that, the lead of that film (and its predecessor) Andrew Garfield is expected to return, along with Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy.

Kirsten Dunst is also expected to reprise her role as Mary Jane Watson from Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy, with Tobey Maguire perhaps appearing too as his version of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Dafoe and Church would be reprising their roles from the Raimi series. Dafoe portrayed Green Goblin in 2002’s Spider-Man before resurfacing through hallucinations throughout the series while Church portrayed Sandman in Raimi’s Spider-Man 3.

If they do return, it means Holland’s Spidey will have a whole rogues gallery of villains to face. But let’s be honest, he already does!
