Fans have been waiting a long time for The CW to provide them with an update on Green Arrow and The Canaries and now Arrow’s Ben Lewis has discussed the status of the show.

Fans have been on the edges of their seats waiting for The CW to provide them with an update on the status of Arrow spin-off Green Arrow and The Canaries, but the network has yet to give it to them. The Arrowverse offshoot was packaged in a backdoor pilot episode that took place during Arrow‘s final season and it aired back in January.

In spite of high ratings – a season high to be exact – and critical acclaim, there hasn’t been any update on the development of the potential series in about six months.

Will Green Arrow and The Canaries be picked up?

Arrow star Ben Lewis recently spoke to TVLine in regards to his wonderful new holiday movie The Christmas Setup and briefly discussed Green Arrow and the Canaries. When asked if he’d heard any updates on the show, he responded:

"“I haven’t heard anything about it in quite a while. I was always sort of a little bit out of the loop because I was not contractually attached to it the way that Katie [Cassidy] and Juliana [Harkavy] and Kat [McNamara] were, so I don’t really know. That’s another group that had such great chemistry, and I would never say no to the opportunity to work with them again. But it’s been over a year now. I don’t know. You would have to ask them about the status of it. But if it ever happens, I would be thrilled, because I love those women.”"

His response comes at the same time that one of the show’s trio of heroes, Kat McNamara, also revealed that she hasn’t heard any updates on its development. Needless to say, both of these updates have left fans frustrated because they had been promised answers would come “soon” back in June. But alas, The CW remains silent on the fate of the Arrow spin-off that people clearly want.

More from Arrowverse

Both TVLine and Lewis reiterated that The CW hasn’t officially passed on the show (at least in an official announcement, at least), so there is always the possibility that it could still be picked up (or already has been and the announcement just hasn’t been made), but admitted that the pandemic might have thrown a wrench in the “forward momentum”.

Lewis portrayed the adult version of William Clayton – the son of the Green Arrow/Oliver Queen – and has confirmed that he would love to reprise the role in Green Arrow and The Canaries, adding that he “would love to” see William with a love interest in the future.
