9. Aaron Davis disappears

Comic book: Miles Morales Spider-Man No. 21

Miles Morales has spent the better part of the year being a victim of his 616 counterpart. While Miles Morales’ Spider-Man has a good heart, the 616 version (now going by Ultimatum) is willing to get people hooked on drugs. This obviously leads to a showdown between the two of them. During this, Ultimatum tries to send Spider-Man back to the Ultimate Universe (his original home). It ends with Spider-Man’s Uncle Aaron saving the day. During his rescue, however, Aaron Davis disappeared in a flash of purple light. We don’t know if he’s alive in another universe, dead, or with Ultimatum being tortured. What we do know is that Miles is taking this loss hard.

Why is this important?

A week after his Uncle disappeared, we saw Miles understandably still reeling from Aaron’s disappearance. He blamed himself for what happened and ended by saying he doesn’t know if he can, “keep doing this” without him.

We know it’s not likely that Miles will quit forever, but there’s going to be an adjustment period. He may be more aggressive, reckless, and even put the costume down for a bit. The next issue has Starling on the cover, so he may go to her for advice on how to keep going. This conversation may be about more than being Spider-Man.

Saladin Ahmed has added a lot of difficult real life issue to Miles’ life, so expect some hard-hitting emotional drama here.
