Rumor: A new DCEU Superman movie on the horizon with major name attached
There is speculation J.J. Abrams is in search of new screenwriters to tackle the latest Superman film in the DC Extended Universe.
It’s been rumored for quite some time that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker director and head honcho at Bad Robot, J.J. Abrams was interested in bringing Superman back to the big screen. Now, as reported by Bounding Into Comics, more rumors are abound and even suggest that Abrams is seeking new writers to continue the Man of Steel’s DCEU adventures.
Grace Randolph of Beyond The Trailer shared a tweet just prior to the holiday period in which she referred to a number of DCEU rumors, concluding with Abrams’ search for these writers.

At some point later, Twitter user DCVERSO seemingly backed up these claims, revealing two of their sources have confirmed Abrams is indeed looking for new screenwriters to potentially pen the new Superman film.
Like with all insiders, not all of Randolph’s reports have turned out to be accurate but she did hit the nail on the head with her coverage on DC Films in the past (and in regards to The Snyder Cut). Nonetheless, this remains a rumor for now – particularly because Superman’s future in the DCEU remains something of a mystery.
Is Man of Steel 2 actually happening?
It’s unknown if Abrams would keep Henry Cavill – who portrayed the character in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League – on-board but it does seem at least a little bit likely as it was reported a while back that the actor had signed a new deal with Warner Bros. to reprise his role as Superman in some capacity.

Before it was announced in 2019 by The Verge that Abrams signed a five-year deal with WarnerMedia through his Bad Robot Production Company worth $250 million, there was a lot of speculation, which eventually turned out to be true about his new partners. There was especially hearsay of the filmmaker being in line to direct both potential Superman and Green Lantern film projects.
Could we see the Superman movie take place in the DCEU and finally give fans the Man of Steel 2 they’ve been waiting for or will it be a standalone movie in its own universe? Guess we’ll have to wait and see how this rumor pans out, but for now, it’s nice to be talking about Superman on the silver screen again.
