Batman: The Animated Series to return for new season on HBO Max

According to Kevin Smith, it seems that Batman: The Animated Series could be revived on popular streaming service HBO Max.
For some fans, Batman: The Animated Series is the definitive version of the Batman character. It first introduced fans to Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill in their iconic roles, introduced Harley Quinn to the world and created Mr Freeze’s tragic origin story.
The sequel series, Batman Beyond, also created the character of Terry McGinnis who works with an old Bruce Wayne to continue the legacy of Batman. Batman TAS, The New Batman Adventures and Batman Beyond recently debuted on HBO Max last month. Now, it seems that the original offering is set to return for a revival.
Is Batman: The Animated Series coming back on HBO Max?
The rumor of the original series being revived comes during an episode of Smith’s Fatman Beyond podcast, where Smith discussed the rumour of the show being revived with co-host Marc Bernardin. Smith states that he has been told from “reliable sources” that the show was being revived.
While Smith said that the comments are to be taken as merely rumors for now, the source he cited was apparently the source that told him about the project Batman: Soul of the Dragon (which proved to be true). Every rumor is to be taken with a grain of salt until confirmed, however Smith’s comments sound very promising and he has often been a reliable source in the past.

While the DC Animated Universe has been slightly revived in the past, with movies such as Justice League vs The Fatal Five and Batman and Harley Quinn being seemingly based in the same universe due to the character designs, the DCAU has not had a full revival.
This news could lead to the DCAU being continued on HBO Max, which would be a major win for fans of the classic animated universe.
Batman: The Animated Series first launched in 1992, and led to three seasons (including The New Batman Adventures). The series spawned the DC Animated Universe, which featured shows such as Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited and Static Shock.
Batman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures and Batman Beyond are all streaming on HBO Max.
