Batgirl and Zatanna DC projects confirmed: Are they coming to HBO Max?
Batgirl and Zatanna are reportedly confirmed as film and TV projects but are they coming to HBO Max.
The DC Extended Universe continues to grow, with Warner Bros. overseeing a host of films and TV shows featuring some of DC Comics’ most beloved characters. While the big-screen offerings did have something of a rocky start, they have now found their footing with more standalone offerings and, starting next year, those standalone offerings will branch out into the small screen.
As the DCEU evolved, a number of projects were announced before others were scrapped. Among the uncertain projects was a Batgirl movie that has seemingly been in development since 2017. While things have been relatively quiet on that front in the years and months since, it seems that Batgirl will indeed be returning to live-action… and she’s not the only one.
Batgirl and Zatanna to star in HBO Max properties?
As reported by CBR, a graphic unveiled at AT&T Investor’s Day presentation showcased some of Warner Bros.’ upcoming content. On that graphic were logos for the likes of Shazam: Fury of the Gods, Supergirl, The Batman, Peacemaker and Black Adam. However, two other properties featured were that of Batgirl and Zatanna.

It has yet to be officially confirmed as to whether the projects will be definitively live-action but it does seem likely given the rumors of both live-action projects leading up the announcements.
While a Batgirl film has been in development for four years, there were doubts cast about whether or not it would come to fruition. On the other hand, there have been rumblings of it heading to HBO Max as Walter Hamada recently confirmed that some DCEU films would debut on the streamer instead of in the theater, with Batgirl being one of the favored possibilities. Is this Batgirl the long-awaited live-action movie?
Similarly, there have been rumblings of a live-action Zatanna series on HBO Max for quite some time now, so the confirmation here suggests that the DC Universe’s magician could finally be getting the starring role she deserves. Could this lead into that confirmed Justice League Dark spin-off? Is a Constantine crossover coming? Who knows.
Whatever shape or form these projects take, it’s a very exciting time to be a DC fan.
