Walter Hamada could become the king of comic book movies with DC’s impressive list of upcoming DCEU content on both HBO Max and the big screen.

In 2013, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel kicked off the DC Extended Universe with high hopes and expectations. Since then, we have seen news and rumors of creative differences, which wasn’t helped by polarizing films like Suicide Squad, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League – all of which left fans conflicted and critics with a sour taste in their mouths. Needless to say, when it comes to the early DCEU, fans can agree on one thing: Lack of direction.

However, things have since changed after Warner Bros hired Walter Hamada to oversee their DC Films. The former New Line Cinema producer came over to reboot what some felt was a dying universe. The lone bright film was Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman and that was then followed by surprise hit Aquaman. Since then, Warner Bros. reignited hope for DC fans with films like Shazam, Birds of Prey, to some degree the standalone Joker, and Wonder Woman 1984. However, Hamada is just getting started. Fans hoping for more live-action DC characters are in for a treat.

Hamada plans to use HBO Max and the big-screen to connect his DC Films and showcase that comic book movie fatigue isn’t actually a thing. According to the New York Times, Hamada hopes to release six DC films per year starting 2022. Four of those films will release in theaters, while two more will exclusively head to streaming service HBO Max. The plan is to have riskier, lesser-known characters make their live-action appearances on HBO Max while big names dominate the big-screen.

For example, Matt Reeves’ Batman trilogy will introduce a new Dark Knight universe. HBO Max’s Gotham PD will spin-off into a different side of that Gotham with Jeffrey Wright possibly starring. But things won’t stop there.

Which DC movies will debut on HBO Max?

As NYT theorizes, Christina Hodson’s long-rumored Batgirl movie may be one of the next Bat-family projects to debut on HBO Max along with the potential Static Shock movie. Two great options for potential DC movies/TV shows on HBO Max, but what else can we expect to see?

The truth is that there are a list of characters in the DC Films universe who could benefit from a HBO Max offering. As fans are already suggesting, Zoe Kravitz’s take on Catwoman could warrant a series or film.

More from DCEU

Meanwhile, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will reboot our favorite anti-villains on the big screen but at least one of its members, Peacemaker (John Cena), will get his own series. With so many Suicide Squad characters whose stories are unknown, the options for more shows and/or films are endless.

Speaking of superhero groups, Geoff Johns’ Green Lantern Corps is also set for HBO Max while Justice League Dark bring a touch of horror to the growing DC catalog. But the world expansion doesn’t have to stop there. James Wan’s Aquaman introduced fans to a darker side of the aquatic hero’s universe with monsters of the Trench. Wan planned to produce a spin-off film featuring the deep-sea creatures titled The Trench. Could we see it makes its debut on HBO Max instead?

Of course, the aforementioned characters barely scratch the surface of DC Comics content. As a matter of fact, the most exciting news about a DC hero making their live-action debut is indeed Static Shock. The electrified superhero had fans clamoring for a film for a long time and, now, thanks to HBO Max and Hamada, we may finally be getting what we asked for.

There are so many previously-teased DC characters to explore like, Blue Beatle, Booster Gold, Lady Shiva, Nightwing and many more – all of whom could make their way to HBO Max. As for the big screen, The Flash, Aquaman 2, Shazam 2, and Wonder Woman 3 are all on the horizon. Still, with all this exciting news, what we really wanna know is… Will that Man of Steel sequel happen?
