X-Men 2 star Kelly Hu is open to bringing Lady Deathstrike into the Marvel Cinematic Universe if the opportunity presents itself.

When Disney bought Fox’s assets, Marvel reacquired the rights to the Fantastic Four and X-Men. Both worlds will be integrated into the MCU in the coming years, but right now the only X-character anyone is sure will make the jump is Deadpool.

The Merc With A Mouth aside, it’s not clear what form the X-Men will take with Marvel or who will join the team. But one veteran of the Fox movies thinks a return of the deadly Wolverine villainess she played would be a great idea.

Speaking with ComicBookMovie, star of the animated Batman: Soul of the Dragon Kelly Hu said it “would be a dream” when asked about reprising Lady Deathstrike for a new, modern Marvel movie.

Hu also mused about the characters the studio could pull from the vast ocean of X-properties:

"“I would love if that were to happen, but I feel that X-Men Universe is so vast. There are so many characters, I feel like they’ve barely scratched the surface [Laughs]. How many X-Men films have there been? There have been so many, but I don’t even know how many more characters there are to still introduce.”"

X-Men united in the MCU?

Kelly Hu played Deathstrike in X2: X-Men United, a movie that came out almost a full two decades ago. In a departure from comics where Logan and the former Yuriko Oyama were flames, she was a silent, secret weapon of Col. William Stryker (Brian Cox). A product of Stryker’s Weapon X experiments, she was made to be the equal of Wolverine in his savagery, if not a level up.

Sadly, she didn’t live up to that potential and met a tragic defeat in battle with Ol’Canucklehead. Deathstrike, presumed dead, wound up a heavy frozen block of adamantium. That didn’t stop Hu from lobbying producers to bring her back in X-Men: The Last Stand. She recalled:

"“I kept trying to convince them that my character was not dead for X3 [Laughs], but they were certain she was pretty dead! [Laughs] We’ll see”."

Given what a mess Last Stand ended up being, Hu’s probably fortunate they didn’t write her into the script. Maybe they’ll get her in the rumored full-blown reboot that’s coming, The Mutants. Hu excitedly remarked on that, and the chance of working in Deathstrike there:

"“It would be such an honor to be able to bring that character back, but who knows what this next X-Men film will even be about!”"

The premise of the rumored The Mutants is under wraps but it may have something to do with WandaVision. Disney Plus’ original Marvel series didn’t deliver on the expectation of mutants setting up roots in the MCU, but it did give us Evan Peters’ Quicksilver one more time and the show’s fallout may just spark the permeation of the X-gene.

Next. Avengers: Endgame is no longer the highest-grossing film of all time. dark
