The wait for Stargirl season 2 is going to be a bit longer than many fans first anticipated.

After airing on both The CW and DC Universe with its first season, Stargirl officially moves over to The CW permanently with its second season — a season ordered by The CW following a successful debut season both in ratings and with the reception from fans.

Given the show’s first season kicked off in May 2020, the hope from fans was that the second season could follow a similar release plan. This looked likely when the first Stargirl season 2 promo teased a summer release for the breakout series.

However, The CW has since confirmed plans for its summer schedule and Stargirl season 2 was not among the shows announced for May 2021.

Stargirl season 2 release date

Looking towards the months ahead, The CW has unveiled its summer lineup which is going to look quite different than in years past. While summer has often been a quieter time of the year for the network, this year will be a different story with many of the network’s favorite series airing new episodes over the summer including breakout favorite Riverdale.

The CW’s 2021 summer schedule will also see the return of Stargirl with Stargirl season 2 set to kick off on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at 8/7c making it the new lead-in for The CW’s newest superhero series Superman & Lois.

While disappointing, the August 10 premiere date for season 2 actually will air on the one-year anniversary of when the show’s season 1 finale aired in summer 2020. The season is sure to be worth the wait as well!

Although we haven’t yet seen any teasers for the episodes ahead, we do know the season will introduce several new characters including heroes Jakeem Thunder and Thunderbolt, as well as new villains Eclipso and Shade. The season is also said to feature an appearance of John Wesley Shipp as Jay Garrick, which will officially connect the show to the Arrowverse.
