The darkness will not stand in the light as Alan Scott is the next Green Lantern making his way into live-action in HBO Max’s new series.
As reported by Deadline, Jeremy Irvine is in talks to star in the upcoming HBO Max Green Lantern series. If talks are finalized, Irvine will portray the first Green Lantern, Alan Scott, in the TV series.
Irvine is the second to be cast in a main role in the project after Finn Wittrock was cast as Guy Gardner. Casting for this show is far from finished though as Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, and more than likely plenty of other Lanterns of various Corps have yet to be cast. And that’s not even taking into account the villains, Guardians of the Universe and supporting characters.
What is the plot of HBO Max’s Green Lantern?
Along with this casting announcement, we got some more plot details as well for the show, which have been relatively limited to date. They are still limited now, but reportedly, the show will feature multiple time periods – with Alan Scott’s story taking place in 1941 where he is a closeted gay man who is also an FBI Agent and Guy Gardner’s story taking place in 1984.

If this trend continues, then Jessica and Simon will likely be considered the “present” Lanterns and their story would take place within the modern day.
As of right now though, anything more about this series would be purely speculation though as, other than the tidbits and casting news already mentioned here, nothing official has been released. As a Green Lantern fan though, the little bit that we do have so far is beyond exciting and incredibly interesting. Sure, there’s no news on the three most prominent Lanterns so far (Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Kyle Rayner), but that’s okay as the characters the show seems to be focusing on are all excellent in their own ways, if not better than the aforementioned three Lanterns. (Writer’s Note: My favorite Green Lanterns are Hal Jordan and Jessica Cruz).
