The X-Men enter the Dawn of X era with changes to Krakoa, their rosters, and add new teams.

Marvel Comics has given the X-Men one of their best runs in decades. We’re seeing them do things that haven’t been done. The island nation of Krakoa is flourishing despite humans trying to kill them. They’ve thwarted Arakko (Swords of X) and terraformed Mars (Hellfire Gala) for the same mutants who tried to kill them. They may not be safe, but they’re guarded better than they’ve ever been.

These are only some of their accomplishments from the last two years. We don’t know what’s going to happen after X-Men: Trial of Magneto and X-Men Inferno. Even if it ends badly, something good will come out of it. One thing we do know is that the newest era, Dawn of X, is on its way – something that will be a direct result of Destiny’s resurrection in Inferno.

Marvel.com announced that there’s more to come with Destiny of X, reporting:

"“Rising out of the ashes of INFERNO and emerging out of the vital time-travelling mission in X LIVES OF WOLVERINE/X DEATHS OF WOLVERINE comes The Second Krakoan Age of X-Men: DESTINY OF X! Mutantkind’s future is reshaped once more, as Krakoa’s greatest triumphs and most crushing challenges still lie ahead. As last week’s CHOOSE YOUR DESTINY teasers showed, the possibilities are endless!”"

Notable X-Men news

The promotional notes from Marvel.com sound great, but that’s not all. There are going to be new X-Titles as well. Among those new titles are Immortal X-Men, Knights Of X, Legion Of X, and X-Men Red. Returning will be X-Men, Marauders, X-ForceWolverine, and New Mutants. It’s also reported that there will be some team shake-ups as well. For example, Deadpool, Blindfold, and Juggernaut.

We saw Juggernaut, Blindfold (who wasn’t alive yet), and Deadpool (who had a “help me” sign). Juggernaut and Blindfold will be joining Nightcrawler’s team (as we saw at the end of X-Men: Onslaught Revelation). As of now, we don’t know where Deadpool will be. The smart guess would be X-Force. He’s been on the team and has Logan and Domino’s trust.

Two titles not mentioned are S.W.O.R.D. (written by Al Ewing) and Excalibur (written by Tini Howard). Whether or not they are canceled remains to be seen. Hopefully not. However, the bad news for fans of Excalibur and S.W.O.R.D. is that they aren’t listed on the promo art. It’s unfortunate since S.W.O.R.D. was one of this writer’s favorite X-books. Hopefully, one of the newer series will be just as good, if not better.

Overall, a lot of news came out of the poster alone. Just seeing the lineup of new X-Books is exciting. Since the X-Men haven’t disappointed since Jonathan Hickman’s Power of X and House of XDawn of X should be another incredible era for the X-Men. They’ve already claimed Mars for mutants, renamed it Planet Arrako, and declared it the capital of the Sol system. That will be tough to top. If anyone can do it, it’s Marvel’s Mightiest Mutants.

Stay tuned for more X-News as things develop.
