What does the future hold for Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Will the Scarlet Witch return? Doctor Strange 2 spoilers ahead.

Wanda Maximoff has quickly evolved into one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Scarlet Witch was always one of the Marvel Comics’ most powerful entities, but the MCU movies weren’t always able to make the most of the character. And still, Elizabeth Olsen’s portrayal ensured she remained a fan-favorite.

But Wanda would get some long overdue spotlight when WandaVision hit Disney Plus. The nine-part series focused on the Avenger’s attempt to deal with the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, specifically the loss of her beloved Vision.

The sitcom-based show was a critical and commercial success, earning Olsen an Emmy nomination and setting the stage for her return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Elizabeth Olsen discusses her Marvel contract

During a recent interview with Collider (H/T: The Direct), Elizabeth Olsen was asked about her contract extensions and whether or not she viewed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as “the last time” she would be playing the Scarlet Witch. She responded:

"I” sign extensions every time they want me to do a movie. I just signed a very short one at the beginning, so everything’s constantly just, it’s always adjusting for me. No. I don’t think of this either as the end.”"

It’s certainly not surprising to hear that things are “always adjusting” when it comes to Marvel as the overall story of the MCU is ever-evolving. The most interesting part of Olsen’s comments are the fact that she doesn’t view Wanda’s appearance in Multiverse of Madness as “the end”. That’s definitely an exciting thing to hear as it suggests we could see more of Wanda Maximoff in the future.

As for how Wanda could return, Olsen commented:

"“I don’t know in what capacity I’ll be back. I don’t know how to do it without, I don’t want spoilers.”"

If you saw Doctor Strange 2, you’ll know that Wanda’s fate remains up in the air at the moment. While it’s certainly implied that the film could have been the last we see of the character, there is too much ambiguity considering we’re talking about the almighty Scarlet Witch, and that leaves fans with hope that Wanda will return.

Olsen added that if there is a great idea behind her potential return, she “will be there”. Let’s just hope Marvel offers her another contract extension and brings the character back at some point.
