Naomi wasn’t renewed for a second season, but fans of the show should remain hopeful for its return.

When The CW announced that DC Comics’ Naomi was going to get her own show, this writer was ecstatic. While it was still early in the character’s career (she debuted in 2019), it was smart to get on the bandwagon early. In a short time, Naomi became a popular character. Plus, with Ava DuVernay behind it, there was no way this could fail. Unfortunately, it did. The CW’s Naomi will not be returning for a second season.

Around this time of the year, TV networks announce renewals and cancellations for the next season of TV. Sometimes, shows are canceled to make room for new projects. Other times it’s because the shows aren’t performing the way they wanted. For Naomi, It was a little bit of both. However, in this case, this writer believes the low ratings and lack of renewal falls directly on the heads of the people promoting the show.

In a previous article about Naomi’s ratings, this writer wrote, “If the show was marketed as a high school drama, the audience would have gone in with different expectations. Instead of getting a show full of superhero battles, you’re getting more issues and fights between family and friends.” He still stands by that statement, especially after the final seven episodes were close to perfect.

Fans of the DC comic book character couldn’t have asked for a better interpretation of Naomi McDuffile. Kaci Walfall shines throughout the entire series. Alexander Wraith played Dee and he was also great, playing the seemingly emotionless big brother well – it even came off funny when it needed to be. Zumbado wasn’t like the DC Comics character, but that didn’t stop Cranston Johnson from being great. And, Naomi’s best friend Annabelle, played by Mary-Charles Jones, can’t be forgotten. She was a ten out of ten every episode.

What’s next for Naomi?

Let’s hope that this is not the end of Naomi. The problem was never the show, but how it was presented. Now that the creative team knows what the fans want and most of the high school and teenage drama has been established, it would be great if it was pitched to other channels and streaming platforms that could showcase that with a second season.

Ava DuVernay’s name comes with credibility. With that in mind, it’s easy to see why fans might be hopeful of other places giving the show another chance. Second, comic book projects are in high demand. However, not all channels and streaming platforms work for those projects.

Netflix and Hulu have proven that they aren’t the ideal home for comic book shows. Meanwhile, Amazon Prime has become one of the best, as Invincible and The Boys are prime examples of this. No matter how true that is, Naomi needs to go home to HBO Max.

HBO Max has some of the best DC Comics shows. Doom PatrolPeacemakerTitans and Harley Quinn are only a few of the titles. That’s not to mention the plethora of classic DC Comics animated shows and movies that are available, and it’s also the home of recent or ongoing CW shows such as Batwoman and Superman and Lois. This means fans could see more live action Naomi should the streamer hope to pick it up. Or, HBO Max could get bold and continue the show in an animated series or movie. Fans have seen how well DC Comics does with those projects.

Bring Naomi home to HBO Max and give the character the show and praise it deserves!

Next. There’s a new Batman TV series on the way (and it’s the hope DC fans need right now). dark
