The secret is out

Comic book: X-Men No. 12

The biggest secret the mutants of Krakoa have is resurrection. They’ve found a way to cheat death using the Five mutants. Hope Summers, Proteus, Egg, Elixir, and Tempus use their abilities to bring mutants back from death. Then Charles Xavier or another powerful telepath uses the Cerebro helmet to give them the last saved memories.

In issue No. 1 of Gerry Duggan’s X-Men, writer Ben Urich started asking questions about mutants coming back. Urich ends up discovering the secret thanks to Nathaniel Essex (not the one on Krakoa) only for Synch to erase his memory. In X-Men No. 13, Cyclops and Synch confess to Urich that Synch erased that memory. This leads to Ben Urich telling the world that mutants have solved death.

Why is this important?

Krakoa’s second Hellfire Gala is right around the corner (July 13). With that comes another vote for new members of the X-Men. Cyclops telling Urich about the Resurrection Protocols could affect how people vote. He’ll most likely be shunned by most of the mutants of Krakoa, meaning he won’t make the new team. This could lead to Jean Grey being the leader – something that seems Gerry Duggan has been hinting towards.
