Scarlet Witch should bring the Mutants to the MCU

Long live Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch, an anti-villain who deserves to return to the MCU as the catalyst to the X-Men.

Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is headed our way in the near future. Most of the Avengers are gone, for one reason or another. The only original members left are Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Hulk, and Wanda Maximoff. I know, for those of us who saw Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda may be dead. Rubble crushed the non-mutant to end her brief run as the Scarlet Witch. However, if you don’t see a body, there’s always a chance for a comeback.

After all, there was that blip of light shining from her rubble grave. When it comes to Wanda Maximoff, we expect to see her rise again.

We saw last Wanda in the Multiverse of Madness, but that ending did little service to the character. Wanda deserved better. Kevin Feige is genius enough to understand the complex character he has in the Scarlet Witch and in the elite Elizabeth Olsen. It doesn’t hurt that the WandaVision star also expressed interest in returning to the role. Sure, she can return to help the heroes against Kang. She could even pop up on a Disney Plus series on the next Avengers movie, but there is a better way to bring her back.

Will Wanda bring the Mutants to the MCU?

In the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda was all Scarlet Witch, a superpowered anti-villain with powers rooted in witchcraft. Whenever Wanda returns, it should be as an anti-hero. I understand we saw her in an anti-hero role for a brief period in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Reintroducing her in the next phase with the Mutants would be better.

Introducing mutants should shake up the MCU. The perception of mutants should be rooted in the mystery and ignorance that surrounds those born with gifts. After all, the other heroes in the MCU received powers through ancillary means. Given the newfound mutants would likely operate in a way that could be seen as criminal, the Avengers may feel the need to step up and take down the mutants. That’s where Wanda comes in.

Wanda doesn’t have to lead the X-Men, but it wouldn’t hurt her if she were the first member of the Brotherhood of Mutants. The former Avenger is the perfect empathizer for those struggling to be accepted by society. We saw her go through the struggle more than once. And it doesn’t hurt that she’s a maternal figure. She could lead to the introduction of Magneto as well.

Imagine Wanda reuniting with her long-lost father, Erik Lehnsherr, a man she thought long dead. Together they can introduce the Mutants into the MCU. Their actions could lead to Charles Xavier forming his own group of mutants in the hopes of showing humans that not all mutants are the same. So, by way of Wanda, the MCU could get the Mutants and the X-Men.

Of course, there are other ways Olsen could reprise her role as Wanda, but what better way than to return during the X-Men phase? Maybe Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. What do you think?
