When is Wolverine coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? It’s a question that fans simultaneously want answered and yet are afraid of what the answer might be. That’s an understandable struggle given how popular Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of the claw-brandishing mutant was in Fox’s X-Men film series, but the fact remains: The X-Men are coming to the MCU.

Marvel Studios have been very secretive about when it might happen, but after Disney’s acquisition of Fox a number of years ago, it’s inevitable – so inevitable, in fact, that Disney Plus’ Ms. Marvel made the MCU’s first reference to the mutants.

With the waiting for Wolverine comes the fan-castings, discussions and, perhaps most exciting of all, the fan art, as Marvel fans theorize about who will play the character when he is cast. And one popular choice to play the role is Antony Starr.

A recent concept poster from digital artist 83pixelstudios imagines what The Boys star Antony Starr could look like in the role of Wolverine. Suited up in a variation of the X-Men uniform, the epic fan art sees a serious Starr showcasing Wolverine’s iconic metal claws.

Starr is no stranger to larger-than-life roles in superhero properties. The actor is best known for portraying the dangerous Homelander in Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys – a critically-acclaimed series which was just recently renewed for a fourth season.

Is Antony Starr playing Wolverine in the MCU?

The role of Wolverine has yet to be cast in the MCU, so it remains unknown who will be playing him, or any of the X-Men for that matter. While Marvel Studios have regained the rights to the characters, they are seemingly playing the long game with the mutants, as they primarily focus on introducing the Fantastic Four and setting up their recently-announced Multiverse Saga.

Nevertheless, it’s clear that Wolverine and the X-Men are slowly on their way to the MCU. The fact that Marvel Studios is reviving the classic X-Men: The Animated Series (now titled X-Men ’97) is an indicator that Kevin Feige is aware of the team’s value, while the reference to mutants in Ms. Marvel and the return of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness suggest that the MCU is gearing up to introduce us to the X-Men sooner or later.

Needless to say, whoever plays Wolverine will have a tall task ahead of them living up to Hugh Jackman’s iconic portrayal, but Antony Starr is no stranger to tall tasks and would undoubtedly be a great choice to play the role.
