Riverdale season 7 may be sought-after but don’t be expecting it to debut on The CW this year.
The end is nigh for Riverdale. The CW‘s long-running mystery series has been on the air since January 2017 but its upcoming seventh season will be its last.
The show has been a huge success for Warner Bros. Television and The CW. However, it owes much of that success to Netflix, as the streaming service turned it into a global phenomenon, making it a much bigger hit outside of the US – something that it also did with The CW’s Dynasty.
But all good things must come to an end, even those as outlandish as Riverdale. The CW announced earlier this year that the Archie Comics’ recently-confirmed seventh season would ultimately be its last.
That said, even though the Fall TV season is kicking off on the network with the likes of DC’s Stargirl, Kung Fu and new shows The Winchesters and Walker: Independence entertaining fans, the network has confirmed that Riverdale season 7 won’t be a part of the fall line-up.
Riverdale season 7 release date predictions
Riverdale season 7 will premiere on The CW in 2023. The network has yet to announce what month it is coming in, but that all could depend on the episode count.
Riverdale is a show that continues to opt for the longer 22-episode count that was more suited to a pre-pandemic era (that could have something to do with the Netflix deal) but with its final season being a midseason release, it could be shorter. That’s just a prediction, one that is partially made due to the fact that fellow CW veteran The Flash will be bowing out next year too and it will have a shorter 13-episode final season. Will Riverdale follow suit?
If the show does stand its ground and bows out with 22 episodes, then it could return as early as January 2023. However, if there is a shortened episode count, then The CW might decide to hold it until March or April.
Again, those are just predictions, and it’s best to wait for official confirmation from the network or the producers in regards to Riverdale season 7’s premiere date. One thing is for sure, though, Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Cheryl Blossom, Toni Topaz, Tabitha Tate, Kevin Keller, Alice Cooper, Fangs Fogarty and the rest of the Riverdale residents will bow out in memorable fashion.
