MCU fans are ready to see Wolverine and the rest of Marvel’s X-Men show up and this awe-inspiring image of Henry Cavill gives us a glimpse of why.

2022 was a pretty rough time for Henry Cavill fans. Shortly after the actor departed his Witcher role and announced he would be back as Superman in the now-DCU, it was revealed that he would not be returning as the Man of Steel and that a new Superman movie was in the works without him. We now know that David Corenswet will take over for him as the Man of Steel in the DC Universe.

Thankfully, it was also revealed that Cavill would lead a live-action Warhammer 40,000 series for Amazon (as well as return for the already-filmed third season of The Witcher).

However, after his unexpected departure from the DCEU, fans have been wondering if we could ever see him appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Kevin Feige’s shared universe of Marvel heroes seems like a place that many A-Listers are destined to appear in at some point or another throughout their careers, with big names such as Angelina Jolie, Natalie Portman, and Christian Bale all being among the more recent additions to the saga. And as Cavill’s memorable performance as Superman indicates, he has the screen presence for such a role. In fact, his name has been linked with Marvel in the news in the past year.

Speaking of which, one character that fans would love to see make his way to the MCU is Logan – a.k.a. the Wolverine. With the mutants now seeming like a more realistic possibility in the MCU, Wolverine’s arrival could be imminent, especially with multiple mystery movies and TV shows in Phase 6. In fact, we know Hugh Jackman will be reprising his role as his version of the character in Deadpool 3, but is that set to be the canon iteration moving forward?

If not, Logan is a character that Cavill could nail, right? Why not give him the chance to show us a more ferocious side to superheroing? It turns out, actually, that this is a pretty popular idea among fans, spawning some insanely good fanart in the process.

This awesome artwork from digital artist ApexForm gives fans an idea of what Henry Cavill could look like if he were to play the role of Wolverine in a Marvel Studios project.

The stunning image features Cavill’s hero boasting a Terminator-like wound, revealing metal underneath his flesh. The most striking feature? Well that is, of course, the character’s signature claws which reach across most of the image and really add to the idea of how great Cavill would look boasting them.

Is Henry Cavill playing Wolverine in the MCU?

Hugh Jackman is set to reprise his role as the version of Wolverine that he played in Fox’s X-Men film series between 2000 and 2017 in Deadpool 3. It was an unprecedented announcement that shocked fans around the world. However, it sounds like he might just be returning for this one film. After all, he retired from the role in 2017’s Logan. And if this is indeed the case, he may be playing a variant of the character and not the MCU’s primary version. This is something that Jackman himself recently alluded to.

Moreover, recent reports suggest that actors should as Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner could return from the Daredevil and Elektra film series – a Daredevil saga completely different from the MCU’s canon Man Without Fear (Charlie Cox). So variants could play a role in this movie, and if that is the case, Jackman’s Logan may not be the MCU’s Wolverine going forward.

Speaking of the MCU’s Wolverine, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law actually made reference to Logan in its second episode, with a headline on a fictional website within the show referring to a man with metal claws. The question is: Will this be a different version than the one Jackman plays?

There have been some rumors of an X-Men movie and a separate Wolverine series on Disney Plus but nothing has been confirmed by the studio in regards to the debut of the X-Men as of yet.

Speaking of rumors, Cavill’s name was among a list of actors that are rumored to have signed deals with Marvel Studios. Of course, it’s best to take this information with a grain of salt until any announcement is made, but the idea of Henry in the MCU is very exciting indeed. That said, he could very busy for the foreseeable as he is working on the Warhammer 40K series for Amazon.

If a new version of Wolverine does happen to make his presence felt in the MCU outside of the Hugh Jackman version, Henry Cavill would definitely be a popular choice to play him, especially as audiences have been longing to see him appear in Marvel Studios’ beloved shared universe.
