The Flash: Michael Keaton stuns as Batman in jaw-dropping poster
DC fans can’t wait to see Michael Keaton once again don Batman’s cape and cowl in The Flash and this amazing image highlights why.
If you asked a random comic book movie fan who their favorite Batman is, there is a pretty high chance they would say Michael Keaton.
The Emmy-winning actor first brought The Dark Knight to the big screen in Tim Burton’s 1989 classic before he returned three years later to reprise that role in Batman Returns and it really goes without saying that he gave us the modern day movie Batman we know and love.
The star is next set to reprise the role again, playing Batman for the first time in three decades when he returns in upcoming DCEU movie The Flash this year. Since the announcement a few years ago, there has been a lot of mystery about how he will be returning and in what capacity, but it’s definitely happening and fans are thrilled about it. We were given our first glimpse of that return at DC FanDome 2021 when the teaser trailer for The Flash was released when we saw the back of his Caped Crusader’s cowl in a truly goosebump-inducing moment.
Fans are so excited that they have been designing some impressive fan art since the announcement was made that he would be returning, envisioning him back in the role. The Flash is still five months away but let’s celebrate Batman’s return by looking at this incredible artwork of the Dark Knight himself.
What Michael Keaton might look like as Batman in The Flash
This awesome artwork comes from digital artist Sonnyfive, who shared the piece on their Instagram account. It features Michael Keaton once again in the role of the Caped Crusader, using the poster of Batman Forever as inspiration for that.
And that in itself is a pretty ironic creative choice considering that Forever was once going to be Keaton’s third Batman movie (before he departed) and now, The Flash will be his third time in the role. It also pays tribute to the upcoming film’s new logo, only with The Keaton in place of The Flash.
Is Michael Keaton playing the same Batman in The Flash?
Keaton is believed to be playing an aged version of his Dark Knight, who crosses paths with Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), after the Scarlet Speedster apparently travels back in time to save his mother and creates an alternate timeline – meaning that the film will seemingly be inspired by the Flashpoint arc in the comics.
The much-anticipated movie began production in London back in April 2021 and set photos that surfaced in June of that year gave us our first look at him in action. Looking at those images, it’s safe to say that he still looks great as the man who would be Bat.
But Keaton’s legendary Caped Crusader isn’t the only major character to appear in the blockbuster movie as Ben Affleck is reprising his role as the DCEU’s Batman and Sasha Calle will join in on the action as Supergirl makes her DCEU debut.
Is Michael Keaton appearing as Batman in any other movie outside of The Flash?
When Michael Keaton was added to the cast of The Flash movie, it very much seemed as if the veteran actor would be joining the DCEU in a somewhat regular capacity. This was then confirmed when he reprise the role again in the HBO Max movie Batgirl. Unfortunately, it seems that may no longer be the case.
The Warner Bros./Discovery merger has completely upended the future of the DCEU, and it all started with the cancellation of Batgirl – in spite of the fact that it had already been filmed. Now, with James Gunn and Peter Safran overseeing DC Studios, the DC Universe is set to look very different than the former powers-that-be at Warner envisioned it. This is already clear, as the pair have reportedly scrapped a number of in-development titles, with one rumored to be a Batman Beyond movie that would have starred Keaton as the older Bruce Wayne training a younger Batman to take over the mantle.
Right now, Keaton’s future in the DCEU uncertain. That said, he will still appear in The Flash.
