Huge Marvel role for The Walking Dead star Steven Yeun revealed

The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun has been cast in Marvel’s Thunderbolts in a role that is set to be pivotal to the MCU going forward.

Steven Yeun knows a thing or two about a comic book adaptation. The Academy Award-nominated actor is best known for playing Glenn Rhee on The Walking Dead, and he also voiced the titular superhero in Amazon’s critically-acclaimed animated series Invincible. Now, he is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Deadline reveals that Yeun has joined the cast of Thunderbolts in a pivotal role that may not only be significant to the movie, but the MCU going forward. The identity of the character remains a mystery, but it’s interesting that they will debut in a movie such as Thunderbolts when we already have such an abundance of heroes, anti-heroes and villains on the title team. Is this another member, or a different character altogether?

Steven Yeun joins star-studded Thunderbolts in major Marvel role

Thunderbolts already boasts a star-studded cast, with most actors reprising their roles from previous MCU installments, such as Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova / Black Widow II, Wyatt Russell as John Walker / US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr / Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov / Taskmaster and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Harrison Ford is also expected to appear as President Thaddeus Ross, after taking over the role from the late, great William Hurt in Captain America: New World Order.

There have been recent rumors that one of the aforementioned Thunderbolts line-up may not actually appear in the movie after all. This has yet to be confirmed by Marvel Studios, but it does make you wonder whether Yeun’s casting as a new character could see the Thunderbolts gain a new member to replace the one that may or may not have exited.

Another popular theory is that he could end up playing the villain of the movie, with the most popular choice among fans being Sentry. This is a character that has been rumored for a potential MCU debut for some time now, so it would make sense to introduce him in the much-anticipated Phase Five movie.

Either way, Yeun is an incredible actor it’s going to be exciting to see what kind of role he will play in the MCU.

Thunderbolts is released in movie theaters on July 26, 2024.
