Another DC series has been saved by another streamer after Warner Bros. Discovery’s mass cull last year. Batman: Caped Crusader lives to fight another day.

The vast majority of DC-related articles last year could have opened with something about it being a rough year for DC fans. Let’s be honest, most of them probably did. So many beloved comic book shows and movies were lost because of restructuring at various companies, studios, and networks, all leaving us with far less comic book and superhero content to enjoy.

Amidst Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision to rebuild the DCEU from the ground up, and The CW’s decision to end the Arrowverse, there was the somewhat less-discussed news that animated series Batman: Caped Crusader had been cancelled at HBO Max. That cancellation never seemed quite as final, though, as Warner allowed production on the show to continue so that they could find a new home for it.

Well, a new home it has found.

As reported by The Hollywood ReporterBatman: Caped Crusader has been picked up by Amazon after it was sold to the streamer as part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s attempt to monetize IP by selling to third-party buyers. The series, which is produced by Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves, has a two-season order at the streamer.

Caped Crusader isn’t the first to survive the cull as another one of DC’s properties was saved by Netflix. While Netflix was among the streamers also interested in the Batman project (along with Hulu and Apple TV), it became clear that Amazon was the likely home for it when it was announced that Warner Bros. Television was negotiating a  deal to house DC animation on the streamer.

Amazon has become a force to be reckoned with in both the superhero and animation fields in recent years, with both live-action series The Boys and animated offering Invincible among Prime Video’s most successful and beloved titles.

Needless to say we’re happy that Batman: Caped Crusader will be joining them.
