War Machine: Every Don Cheadle Marvel movie ranked worst to best
2. Avengers: Endgame
After half of the world’s population turned into dust and vanished in a mere instant, only a select group of heroes remained to pick up the pieces that were left after Thanos’ attack. Many of them were among the original members of Avengers, which was a clever way of giving them the spotlight one last time before their stories would be brought to a conclusion. Avengers: Endgame was all about, well, endings, and while closing out a saga that was eleven years in the making could seem like a monumental task, the Russo brothers delivered in every aspect.
Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, War Machine, and a few other heroes had the daunting task to perform a ‘time heist’ to reunite infinity stones that were scattered across multiple points in the MCU’s history. That was an ingenuous way to look back at all the things the MCU had accomplished up until that point, and (quite literally) re-live a lot of epic moments that were cherished by fans all over the world.
It would be easy to that time travel in Avengers: Endgame was purely used for nostalgia. However, it also allowed some of our heroes to close necessary arcs. Tony, who was constantly haunted by his father’s ghost, was finally able to make amends with him and get to know him for who he was. Thor proved to himself that he was still worthy after lifting Mjölnir and having a talk with his deceased mother.
Finally, Cap saw Peggy Carter again in the past and decided to live with her when Thanos’ plan was finally foiled. All of their stories were greatly impacted by the time heist and without it then maybe Tony’s and Steve’s farewell wouldn’t have been so satisfying and fitting.
Avengers: Endgame wasn’t as fast-paced or dramatic as its predecessor: Avengers: Infinity War. However, it did deliver one of the most epic (if not, the most epic) moments in the MCU as a whole.
Watching all of the Avengers finally assemble to take on Thanos and his army will always be exciting, and it might be a while before Marvel does anything that even comes close to it. The final chapter in the Infinity Saga was memorable, nostalgic, thrilling, and tragic, and without a doubt one of the best moves that James Rhodes has been a part of.
