3. A memory-erasing spell broke the multiverse

We already talked about Spider-Man: No Way Home, but there’s another moment during Spidey’s latest adventure that’s just as confusing as Peter’s mission to save inter-dimensional villains.

After Avengers: Endgame premiered and brought the MCU’s Infinity Saga to an end, many fans began to speculate when would Marvel take on a multiversal story, and what exactly would push Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to explore other realities. Many theorized that Wanda Maximoff would open up the multiverse trying to find another version of Quicksilver during the events of Wandavision, but that never came to be. Others suspected What If…? would be the series responsible for explaining how the MCU connects to other realities. However, the moment the multiverse broke loose came during Spider-Man: No Way Home, and it was all thanks to… a memory-erasing spell.

Wait, what?

To be fair, Wong did say the spell “travels the dark borders between known and unknown reality”. But aside from that quick line, there was no correlation between making people forget something and pulling everyone who knew Peter’s identity from other dimensions into the MCU. As much as we all loved to see Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire share the screen in a Spider-Man movie, we can’t deny the logic behind their reunion was a bit… bland.

And don’t get me started on Ned being a wizard all of a sudden.
