3. The Mandalorian season 3

The Mandalorian’s third season continues the strong foundation of seasons 1 and 2. It effectively builds on the Mandalorian mythology and strongly develops the characters of Din Djarin, Grogu, and especially Bo-Katan. Yet the main reason why it may not be as highly regarded as the first two seasons is because it is difficult to endlessly keep the show’s upward momentum – this is the season where The Mandalorian settles in as comfortable, reliable entertainment without necessarily breaking new ground. After all, the preceding seasons were already hailed as groundbreaking Star Wars content.

Moving from the secondary season to this tertiary outing, the story beats do lack some continuity when viewing The Mandalorian as a standalone work. Season 2 ended with the emotional separation of Mando and Grogu and then season 3 undercuts that sentimentality by beginning with them back together again. Of course, Star Wars operates best when consuming all content in relative story order, and therefore, audiences most likely watched the pair’s reunion in The Book of Boba Fett. But if fans choose to isolate The Mandalorian’s narrative structure, there remains an inconsistency between the ending of the second season and the start of the third.

Brushing negative notions aside, there is so much to love about The Mandalorian season 3. Bo-Katan rises from a once-fallen leader to wield the Darksaber and regain her stature as the true ruler of the Mandalorians. And how about a plotline in a show called The Mandalorian that actually features Mandalore?

Other highlights consist of Grogu’s flashback of Order 66 and being saved by a jedi, who is played by Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best. The Navarro battle with pirates was impeccably orchestrated and showcased gritty Mandalorian battle tactics. The end of the season leaves off on a high note, with Grogu piloting IG-11, Paz Vizla sacrificing himself against Praetorian Guards, and a climactic fight against Gideon with Grogu stepping up in heroic fashion.
