4. Episode 4, “The Heart of the TVA”

“The Heart of the TVA,” episode four, is exciting and full of surprises but it’s not perfect. This episode does a great job of explaining the secret past of Renslayer and He Who Remains, giving us a closer look into the TVA’s hidden history. The shocker that Miss Minutes wiped the memories of Renslayer and other TVA workers adds an exciting twist, making things even more interesting.

The breaking down of the Temporal Loom makes everyone feel super urgent and desperate as Loki and friends rush to fix it with a cool tool called the Throughput Multiplier (the amount of times I have said “Markiplier” instead). Also, the way they link Ouroboros and Timely to create a time paradox is clever and makes the story’s time travel bits even cooler.

But, the episode has a few weak spots. The story of Renslayer, Miss Minutes, Wolfe, Dox, and their groups teaming up and then turning on each other feels too quick and not very well or fully thought out. The big decision of Dox and her group to face a scary end by Miss Minutes should have been way more emotional. The part where Loki, Sylvie, and a past version of Loki meet, including when they get rid of the past Loki, was actually really important but needed more detail to truly hit home.

The end of the episode, where they shut down the TVA’s magic-blocking gadgets and then magically control Wolfe, is cool to watch but seems to happen too easily. The last part, with the big explosion of the Temporal Loom and all the chaos, looks awesome but leaves us hanging with lots of questions. It sets up an interesting next part, but it doesn’t make this episode feel completely satisfying by itself.
